Horde of Two

Guitar & Bass Actions CD

$12.00

/Guitar & Bass Actions/ is the debut album by HORDE OF TWO*, *an instrumental group made up of *Mecca Normal* guitarist *David Lester* and solo bassist *Wendy Atkinson.* The album includes abstract and ambient soundscapes, poppy instrumentals and music to cry by. They used varied techniques to provoke distinct and startling sounds from their instruments: a knife on a guitar, improvising while watching films with the sound off and overlapping and intertwining disparate sounds. Recording this album began in the dead of winter with a TV monitor set up in the living room of Wendy?s apartment. The video was cued to a murder scene in Alfred Hitchcock?s film /Blackmail/. They picked up their instruments ? guitar and bass ? Wendy pressed the record button on the 4-track. Their music unfolded in a collaborative response to the tension on screen. Lush tendrils of bass hang from wrought iron balconies of guitar. Wendy Atkinson has released two solo bass albums, /Pink Noise/ and /Trim/ (Smarten UP! Records). She was twice selected for Art in the Air, an international audio art festival, and her music was included in Sonic Landscapes, a sound art exhibit in Michigan, and on the CD compilations /Ladyfest Ottawa/ and /Deep Wireless 5/ (New Adventures in Sound Art, Toronto). David Lester is the guitar player in the underground rock duo Mecca Normal. Along with the band?s singer, Jean Smith, he co-presents a lecture called "How Art & Music Can Change the World." David?s artwork has appeared in /Broken Pencil/, /Bananafish, San Diego Reader/, and /Warburger/. HORDE OF TWO lives in Vancouver, Canada and plans to tour in the Summer and Fall of 2009.
