In May, 2010 Mecca Normal performed at the one year anniversary of downtown Olympia venue and gallery Northern; it was also the opening celebration for an exhibition, The Black Dot Museum of Political Art, featuring work by both Jean Smith and David Lester of Mecca Normal, and that of other Canadian artists. While in town Mecca Normal stopped by the Dub Narcotic Studio and recorded Volume CXXII of our International Pop Underground series of 7" 45 rpm records. Included here are both sides of the single:

This is a song entirely improvised layer by layer in the studio. It started with Jean Smith playing the piano; guitar work by David Lester was added, followed by timpani, percussion and Jean's vocals.

The first is Jean's documentary about the recording of "After the Next"; the second is her introduction to the song "Malachi" at the Green House in Arcata, Ca., April, 2009.
