Maxines, The
Drugstore Zip Pak
Olympia has long been a haven for garage bands of all stripes and distortions. The Maxines are comprised of two former Texans, Matt Murillo andKelly Norman. They beat fierce rockin’ rhythms that languished in fire before being hauled out, thrust at the crowd in the Maxines most savage road-side manner. The Big Beat of "Drugstore" was captured at a marathon Dub Narcotic Studio session by Ben Hargett in May 2011; "Ghost in the Cove" was recorded in October 2010 at Dave Harvey's High Command. Both songs will star in their own volume of the International Pop Underground, our series of 7” 45 rpm phonograph records.

Both of these songs are sung by Matt who also strums it up with the guitar. Previous to the Maxines he played in Junior Varsity, The Ka-Nives; he’s currently a member of Olympia’s roughneck surf-bash combo the Jettycats .
This edition of the K Singles Zip-Pak features Special Apps, recordings that do not appear on the Maxines volume in the International Pop Underground series of 45 rpm phonograph records, available only here at the K Mail Order Dept.

Now it is Kelly’s moment in the vocal spotlight, which she handles with aplomb while doubling down on the drum-box primitive. These tunes were also tracked at Dub Narcotic Studio in May 2011.
