[At the behest of the K Mail Order Dept, K artists have been creating K Artist Playlists of their favorite songs from the K catalogue.  This week's playlist comes Shana Cleveland, of the Curious Mystery (who have a new digital-only single called "Be Still" coming out this January) & La Luz.  This K Artist Playlist is available as individual downloadables or as a full album download. It can also be streamed in its entirety! Give it a listen!]

Shana says: "Adrian Orange and Her Band [KLP185] is one of favorite K releases and it is also a record that Calvin sent to me and Nicolas (from the Curious Mystery) right after we first met him! Man, this album is so great, and so completely unique. Whose idea was it to back Adrian Orange's beautifully loose and fragile vocals with these driving rhythms, horns, and organ that at times feels like a Nigerian band from the 70's? I really can't see this record being made anywhere other than Dub Narcotic Studio.

"Oh man, I love this Nucular Aminals record! It's so crazy! "Erring Sister"? What? This band is so evil. But in like a really fun way. Ahhh! I want to dance!

"I remember the first time I listened to this Malaikat Dan Singa [KLP215] album. The Curious Mystery was driving though the middle of the country somewhere and it was like 5:00 AM, sunrise, and only me and Bradford were awake and we were going through a box of promo CDs that we had gotten on a brief tour of Secretly Canadian's warehouse, and I hadn't heard of most of the bands and all the music kinda sounded the same and then we got to this and it was just so wild and awesome!

"I feel like I'm writing too much, I'm going to try and get a little more economical. I like all of Angelo's songs so I just chose this one. It's pretty much perfect.

"It is incredibly hard for me to sit still while listening to this (or almost any) Hive Dwellers song. Man, what a band! These guys are not messin'! I want them to play every party I ever have. And I think they are all really good cooks too.

"Next track. Basemint. Such a great band, why is there no full length? I would like to hear that.

"That Emily Beanblossom has a killer voice. And she's an crazy sweet front-woman. I don't understand why she's not super famous. This song is pretty weird. I get the chills a little bit. This whole album is really good!

"This Little Wings song just floors me. What is happening here? I have no idea, but it sounds like we're right inside his brain and I'm reeeeally into it!

"Have you heard John Frusciante's "Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T-Shirt"? It's totally nuts, and I love it. This Maher Shalal Hash Baz track kinda reminds me that, if it was backed by a school band. Which is something I didn't know that I always wanted to hear.

"I really like how the lyrics just totally change halfway through this LAKE song. Ashley [Eriksson] is such a cool pop songwriter. She must listen to the Beatles.

"And now a beautiful lullaby that only Karl Blau could grace us with.
Goodnight everybody!"
